Dr Kathy Slater

Head of Mexico Projects

In her role as Head of Mexico Projects, Kathy is responsible for identifying possible new rePLANET sites in Mexico for ecosystem conservation or restoration funded by carbon and biodiversity credits. Building on her long-standing working relationships with conservation NGO’s and government departments in Mexico, her role focusses on designing high-quality, large scale projects that benefit biodiversity and mitigate climate change, while at the same time produce socio-economic benefits that are aligned with community needs. Kathy builds the teams that will implement the projects and as projects move into implementation phase, Kathy coordinates socio-economic and biodiversity monitoring and ensure that these co-benefits of carbon projects are achieved.

Kathy has a background in ecology and biodiversity monitoring to develop and evaluate sustainable management plans for protected areas and important biological corridors. She has lived and worked in Southern Mexico for over 20 years focusing on biodiversity monitoring and management of protected areas in conjunction with indigenous communities.
