A Milestone in Trust and Transparency: Our First Third‑Party Verification Visit in Costa Rica

Last month we welcomed our first independent verification visit from Earthood, an accredited third‑party auditor, to our carbon project in Costa Rica. The visit formed part of the robust due diligence required under the Verra Carbon Standard (VCS), a widely respected framework for verifying carbon credits globally. The verification is a critical step in ensuring that the carbon credits we generate are real, measurable and make a lasting positive impact for the climate, ecosystems and local communities.

Independent Oversight That Builds Confidence

During their time on the ground, Earthood’s auditors conducted a thorough review of our project data, methodologies and field practices,  independently verifing that our work aligns with the key principles of the Verra Standard, including:

  • Additionality – Ensuring the emissions removals would not have happened without the specific project
  • Permanence – Guaranteeing the longevity of carbon benefits and mitigating any reversibility risks
  • Measurability – Demonstrating that our carbon impacts can be accurately quantified and tracked

Their independent review strengthens the credibility of our work and supports the trust that buyers, investors and communities place in high‑quality carbon credits.

Using VCS and Earthood

The Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) is a globally recognised benchmark for certifying carbon emission reduction and removal projects. It covers everything from forestry and agriculture to geologic carbon sequestration. Projects certified under VCS and awarded with Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) must pass rigorous third‑party validation and verification, adhere to robust accounting methodologies, maintain transparency via registry systems and engage stakeholders including local communities.

We chose Earthood because of their specialised expertise in navigating VCS compliance. By working with Earthood and following the VCS pathway, we ensure our projects meet the highest standards of environmental integrity, credibility and transparency – so that carbon credits generated are backed by tangible evidence, reflecting genuine contributions to climate change.

Farmers at the Centre of Climate Action

Our team shared that a highlight of the visit was engaging directly with local farmers. Farmers are at the heart of our project in Costa Rica, they are transforming their lands through regenerative farming practices e.g. rotational grazing to increase soil carbon, and via the reforestation of portions of their land – this not only restores degraded ecosystems but also improves livelihoods as productivity is enhanced and local ecosystem services will be improved. Their deep commitment to sustainable practices not only ensures the success of our climate goals, but also builds a powerful model for inclusive, community‑driven environmental action.

A Step Forward for Climate Integrity

This verification visit is more than a procedural requirement—it represents our commitment to trust, transparency, and accountability in the voluntary carbon market. By following the rigorous methodologies set out by Verra and respected third‑party verifiers like Earthood, we can confidently deliver high‑integrity carbon credits.

As we continue to scale our work, milestones like this reinforce our mission: to develop nature‑based solutions that empower communities, sequester carbon and uplift biodiversity.
